Infinity’s greatest advantage is its infinite flexibility. There are practically countless possibilities for categorizing and viewing your items. And although filters will allow you to single out specific items you want to see at any given moment, sometimes you’ll want to see items grouped by a particular attribute.

That’s when you’ll use groups.

Group will allow you to divide the items in a tab according to four parameters (that you will determine in custom fields): checkbox, members, labels and date.

Once you choose how you’ll group your items, the group switcher will change to represent the custom field you’ve chosen, e.g. ‘Grouped by Status.’

How to Use Group

To be able to create different groups, you’ll first have to assign attributes to your items in custom fields. If you haven’t already, we suggest you first check out the section about custom fields.

Once you add one or more of the custom fields suitable for grouping (checkbox, members, labels and date), they will appear as group options. The only thing you need to do then is to click the Group icon at the top-right corner of the board and choose how you want to group your items.

For example, if you’ve created a checkbox to differentiate between finished and pending tasks, you can group the items to see which tasks still need to be done.

To get an even more detailed view, you can include filters to see, for example, only the pending tasks from specific team members. 

Or, you can switch to a different view to see these groups from a different angle. A great example of that would be grouping your items by task status and setting the view to Columns.

So, let’s say you create labels for task status that would be To Do, Doing and Done. Then change the view to Columns and group your items by task status. This way, you will get a visual representation of your team’s progress.

By combining custom fields, filters, groups and views, the options are endless.
